The Value of Family & Community

Caring For People, Focused on Home

Family is at the core of everything we do. The sense of community we foster within our homes is only made richer by maintaining a relationship and a connection with residents' families. We have designed and developed all aspects of our community with this mission.

Aging in Place
For people with dementia, even the best-intentioned move can create unnecessary stress. Harbor House is designed to care for residents throughout all stages of their journey. Our staff is highly trained and confidently able to care for your loved one, even as their disease progresses. Knowing that they will never have to face the physical and emotional trauma of moving as their condition changes brings peace of mind to our residents and to you, their loved ones.

Comfort by Design
Harbor Houses are designed to be a comfortable and inviting family home. Yet it is a home with very special accommodations in place to protect those with physical limitations or memory loss. Natural light, cozy fireplaces, and attractive décor are coupled with a circular corridor to allow safe walking, secured outdoor areas that are welcoming and appropriate for everyone, and ample bathrooms to help maintain independence. Residents may choose to furnish and decorate their private bedrooms with their own furniture, promoting a feeling of familiarity and security. Or, Harbor House can furnish the bedroom. Private bedrooms are just steps away from the living room and dining room, where residents socialize and enjoy home cooked meals with the rest of the Harbor family.

Promoting Community
Each Harbor House resident lives in a community group of eight to 20 people. In our two-plus decades of working with dementia residents, we've found that larger living groups contribute to confusion and anxiety, while smaller ones can lead to isolation, withdrawal and depression. Our residents become like family, secure among familiar faces and consistent daily routines.

Personal Attention
Personal individualized care is the standard upon which Harbor House programs have been built, and we staff accordingly.

Our person-centered approach means that our staff-to-resident ratio enables our team to attend to the physical, social and emotional needs of each resident. Our caregivers are entirely dedicated to meeting resident needs and providing the highest level of care. In addition to our regularly staffed care-team, our staff-to-resident ratio becomes even higher when you add in our house director, nurses, support team and volunteers. You can be assured that many team members will be monitoring and interacting with your loved one daily, as well as keeping you updated.
